Fix My Eyes || a prayer for today

“Love like I’m not scared

Give when it’s not fair

Live life for another

Take time for a brother

Fight for the weak ones

Speak out for freedom

Find faith in the battle

Stand tall but above it all

Fix My Eyes on You

On You”

–“Fix My Eyes,” for KING AND COUNTRY

{This song just perfectly sums up what should be our daily motto to live by; to live life serving and leading others, but above all, seek the glory of God in all that we do.}

•••

Fix my eyes on You. Let this be my daily prayer, my constant reminder of my true purpose. Let this be the assurance I need when I run into the next obstacle, when I’m trying to find my way over the mountain myself, and when I let myself become my own god. Let this be a reminder to ignore the numerous other voices constantly vying for my attention and to instead seek only You.

Remind me that it is okay to take each day step by step. Hold my hand as I cross dangerous rivers and stormy seas, and let me not look down and become afraid like Peter (Matthew 14:30), but instead stay fixated on Your face. Encourage me to live with a child-like faith. Rid me of my distractions so that I may remain solely in Your presence. Remind me that the things of this world are fleeting and that the only continual thing in my life is You.

Take the wheel and make me stop trying to guide myself, for I constantly seem to be steering in the wrong direction. Remind me who is the Shepherd and who is the sheep (John 10:14-15).

Encourage me to take heart in Your continual presence, and to welcome You openly into my life. Remind me that it’s alright for You to have an eternal presence. Remind me that You are with me always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:10), and of the beautiful peace this should bring me.

Teach me how to serve Your kingdom while never taking my eyes off of You. Show me that it’s possible to do both. Teach me to be aware and conscientious. Remind me to give sparingly of my trust.

Allow me to be aware of the visible world around me while still being solely focused on You.

“And above it all, fix my Eyes on You.”

amen.

“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” (Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬)
