“Christ is my reward
And all of my devotion
Now there’s nothing in this world
That could ever satisfy
Through every trial
My soul will sing
No turning back
I’ve been set free
Christ is enough for me
Christ is enough for me
Everything I need is in You
Everything I need”
…
I have decided to follow Jesus
No turning back
No turning back
The cross before me
The world behind me
No turning back
No turning back”
—Christ is Enough, Hillsong Worship
As I was listening to these words this morning, I realized just how often I need to be reminded of this fact: Christ is enough for me.
Let me say that again. Christ is ENOUGH.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we often spend way too much time seeking love from people, and forget the fact that man’s love will NEVER satisfy us. For there is “NOTHING IN THIS WORLD that could ever satisfy.”
Don’t get me wrong, its more than okay to love people and be loved by people—in fact Christ calls us to love all of our neighbors and wants us to be loved in return—but we should be loving people BECAUSE of how much we love God. We have to remember that we do not find our worth in people, and we do not need man’s love to survive—all we NEED is God’s love. That’s it. His love is ENOUGH, and His grace is sufficient.
Humans desire to be loved — its just how we’re wired. But no matter how many snapchat friends, instagram followers, or irl best friends you have, there will always be a hole in your heart that can only be filled by God’s love. Period.
I have discovered that its really easy to feel lonely in college (can I get an amen). Which is slightly strange considering we’re constantly surrounded by people. I have so many wonderful friendships and I am in a community filled with so much love, but even that isn’t sufficient sometimes. I have noticed that the more I seek love from other people, the less I seek God’s love, which is the exact opposite of how things should work.
I should be seeking God’s love first, above all, but let me be honest, that’s really hard sometimes. We all desire to be loved by people, and when people love us back, that’s really awesome and gives us such an emotional high, but then we have a bad day or drama with friends and we feel unsatisfied all over again.
It’s during these times when I am most reminded of the fact that God loves me perfectly even when my earthly companions fail to. This semester He has been reminding me that all I have is Christ, and He is all I need. EVERYTHING I need is in HIM. Not in people, but in Christ. I do not need people’s love, though I crave it, because in the end that will never be sufficient for me.
One of my current favorite worship songs states that “I’ve found a love greater than life itself, I’ve found a hope stronger and nothing compares.”
So not only is His love Enough, but it is GREATER THAN LIFE ITSELF. What a powerful reminder of just how grand His love for us is, and how small our earthly love is compared to His massive love for us.
I am reminded of yet another song (what else would you expect) that has been on my heart a lot recently. The chorus very simply states: “Hallelujah, All I Have is Christ. Hallelujah, Jesus is My Life.”
I love that so much. Not only is Christ enough for me, but all I have is Christ, and He is my life. How powerful is that?!
Christ is ENOUGH.
ALL we HAVE is Christ.
Jesus is my LIFE.
Those three simple facts are enough to keep me going. I find peace in this stressful time of life in knowing that regardless of how my relationships are going here on earth, I always have my relationship with Christ. And that is Enough for me.
May that grant you peace today as well, and may you also be reminded that Christ is enough.
…
“Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone
And live so all might see
The strength to follow Your commands
Could never come from me.
Oh Father, use my ransomed life
In any way You choose.
And let my song forever be
My only boast is You
Hallelujah! All I have is Christ
Hallelujah! Jesus is my life”

“I’ve found a love greater than life itself
I’ve found a hope stronger and nothing compares
I once was lost; now I’m alive in You”
